Miycester Crown City

Pronunciation: My – cess – ter
Miycester is its own kingdom a few hours east and south east from Eilienaxa. It is located deep in the mountain of Mount Blackmaul (including both the surface of and underground), and encompasses the southeastern arm of the continent.
Culture & Society
The City:
The Kingdom of Miycester spans both the surface world and the world under. Under the skies, Mount Blackmaul extends its peaks high into the air. Its many valleys and ravines are sometimes filled with greenery, though no part of that land spans sufficiently to allow for large farming operations. Thus, one will find few inhabitants making a life for themselves above the ground.
Under Mount Blackmaul, the Kingdom of Miycester expands more thoroughly. The ancient mines of the Dwarves, spanning multiple levels underground, are home to the Capital City, and to the lands around it. Whilst the extent of the tunnels is unknown, what is certain is that there are parts of the mines that are barely charted. There, in the darkest corners of the Kingdom of Miycester, seedy and evil things lay lurking: cults, demons and drow all call those depths home.
Clothing and aesthetic is typically considered Arabian Fantasy, Moroccan Fantasy, or Middle-Eastern in nature.
–
The Gods:
The dwarves of Blackmaul once worshipped the Unseelie Queen, the demi goddess later known as the Queen of Air and Darkness. When the drow later claimed the mountain, faith split between her and Vhaeraun. Over time, the Underdark city of Miycester unified under Vhaeraun’s worship, while the surface town of Blackmaul remained devoted to the Unseelie Queen.
During the War of the Queens in 8096, she offered Blackmaul as a haven for non-elves and outcasts, a role it continues to serve. Thus, Miycester below honors Vhaeraun, while Blackmaul above remains the seat of her worship.
–
Military:
Miycester has a standing army of roughly 45.000 troops, spread between infantry, auxiliary troops, plus battle mages and artillery. Miycester also commands battleships and uses crystals for warfare purposes; one of the most popular uses is to fuel battle golems. Furthermore, Miycester has, since the recent bout against Eilienaxa, added high-powered artillery atop Mount Blackmaul.
–
Education:
All citizens under the age of eighteen are required to attend the local educational institution. Private tutors exist and are qualified to provide education.
Once a citizen has attained the age of eighteen, they continue their education by learning a trade, or by studying a vocation, in accordance to their results up to that point. Those citizens who choose not to do so are forcibly recruited into the Military.
–
Culture:
Miycester’s culture reflects a society where magic is integral to daily life, meritocracy is valued, and loyalty to the crown is paramount. The unique underground living influences all aspects of culture, from architectural styles to social customs. With the addition of surface territories, Miycester has begun expanding its cultural domains. The buildings are painted bright orange, as if to help them stand out among the dreary rock. The drow here don’t seem to be too friendly, but they allow you to wander without being accosted. Cheerful sounds of the local market, and the stark scent of overpowering spices assault your senses.

History
The Year 1023:
Far to the east of Eilienaxa, within the realm of the Mists, lies a great mountain known as Blackmaul. In ancient times, the dwarves carved deep mines into its belly. They honored a half-goddess, half-unseelie, whose name has been lost to history. She demanded sacrifice and pain, and the dwarves obeyed, offering their worship to the one who would later be called the Unseelie Queen or the Queen of Air and Darkness.
Blackmaul’s name itself comes from the dwarf who sealed away a monstrous beast within the mountain, becoming a hero of legend. He was no knight or king. Merely a man who protected his wife. His tomb is said to rest somewhere within Miycester’s caverns, and it is still believed that the beast stirs in the depths.
–
The Year 5???:
The dwarves had vanished, leaving Blackmaul abandoned. The drow descended into the forsaken halls and claimed them as their own, naming their new city Miycester. The surface town of Blackmaul was left to wanderers and strays, but the Queen of Air and Darkness remained tied to the mountain. Among the drow, her worship split their society: many turned to Vhaeraun, but others clung to her, sparking bitter conflict. Though the drow sought to make Miycester their own, her shadow remained.
–
The Year 7928:
In this year, Princess Katherine Ithildin was born, daughter of Princess Talindra Ithildin and a drow consort by the name of Rinnor Liriel. She was half-drow, half-moon elf, her skin scattered with stars like the night sky. Many proclaimed her blessed by Moonbow herself, though others whispered she bore the mark of Eilistraee. Her very existence became a living symbol of Cailean’s devotion to Moonbow… and an affront to the drow who despised the union.
The conflict drew in the Unseelie Queen, whom Eilienaxa called upon in desperation to aid them. She answered, lending her power to repel Miycester’s armies. But when victory was won, Eilienaxa betrayed her, casting her aside for Moonbow and destroying her temple.
For Miycester, the betrayal had lasting consequences. The drow had once counted many of her worshippers among them, but after the war they chose to distance themselves. They feared her vengeance yet respected her power, and so they made uneasy peace with her, ensuring they would not earn the same wrath that fell upon Eilienaxa. Over time, the Underdark city unified under Vhaeraun’s worship, while the surface settlement of Blackmaul became the heart of the Unseelie Queen’s cult, a haven for all who were not welcome among the elves.
–
The Year 8096:
For many years the Unseelie Queen seethed. At last her vengeance came. The illusions hiding Eilienaxa fell by her hand, and the way to Blackmaul was opened. She rallied the forsaken. All those not of elven blood, and sent her plague of corruption to overrun the city. This later became known as the War of the Queens. The saga ends in 8098, in Eilienaxa.
–
The Year 8099:
The kingdom of Miycester is swept into a frenzy. Someone has promised them true freedom from the gods. That being would turn out to be Brevek, Forger of the Rifts. His story continues in Eilienaxa. Eventually he is slain.
As of the 27th day of Ches, Cailean and Miycester have forged a treaty that allowed the drow to walk unharmed into the cities of the kingdom, and the people of Cailean to traverse Miycester without being specifically targeted. Trade has even opened up between the two realms, allowing both to prosper.

The Year 8100:
The gods will perish and the strings of fate will be broken. We will forge our own destinies. All hail Queen Suada!
The bold queen made a demand. A simple one, really. Hand over the Arcana Academy Crystal. It would be her shield. In return she’d return Elora Moonscar safely. By her side was her sword, Malakite Avadeen, and he would be the one she needed to destroy the Gods.
Luck was not on her side, as instead of the Crystal, the fourth day of Alturiak, she’d receive Blightburn instead. They call this the Great Blast. There were 203 dead. 150 survivors. Mostly mages and soldiers. Very few citizens.
–
On the ninth day of Alturiak, we mourned the loss of Queen Suada. Lady Dove. She succumbed to her grief in her final moments as Blightburn disease riddled her body. She has been succeeded by her Sword, Malakite Avadeen as king.
May she live forever in our hearts, and in the afterlife with her beloved Reveca.
–
In a shocking turn of events, the new king, Malakite, has come from his chambers completely changed. His first act was to release new laws. This is the first in a very long time that the chaotic kingdom has seen order. With brute force, fear, and cult-like fanaticism from his followers, he was quickly able to set these new laws in action.
The people of Miycester wait with bated breath to see how this fares.
–
Soon enough they had their answer. Mal was both a cruel dictator and a benefactor of the kingdom. Making things better for the city as well as instilling a dark sort of fear with his twisted temper and unpredictable nature. Eventually he announced he would be marrying his favoured slave, making her his Slave-Queen.
–
On the 23rd day of Eleint Malakite’s rule was brutally cut short by the new king, Bellamy Deuxchanson. In a shocking turn of events the man opted to keep Malakite as his Sword.
–
The Year 8101:
On the 7th day of Deepwinter, a treaty has come between Cailean and Miycester. The war is over.
–
A new age of Miycester has come! King Bellamy Deuxchanson has done the unthinkable. He has completely taken control of Miycester, turning this once unruly and dangerous place into something more civilized. At the call of a completely new law system, and releasing all the slaves that have been part of the culture for hundreds of years… Miycester has seen untold changes and fortune.
What will this mean for their future?
–
The Year 8102:
On the 19th day of Mirtual, Shadoan has not been seen around the kingdom for a few days, the last anyone heard she had boarded one of the Miycester trading ships to see about a shipment beyond the mists. After a few days Bellamy left a few signed papers in the council room and on top of that was the crystal of Miycester.
As for Kulaan and Rya, he had been seen following the girl into a portal that had appeared in the deep woods.
–
When word spread that Miycester’s Royals vanished, leaving only the Heart behind, several servants fled the palace in fear for their lives. By morning the remaining staff were beheaded by the Sword of Miycester as was anyone who questioned him about the Heart or Crown. By day’s end, he and those in the Sanctuary of Wilder vanished. Rumor claim they were seen in the Deep Woods near the Gate of the Dead. Now, Miycester holds its breath, waiting to see what power struggle will rise in the vacuum.
–
The Heart of Miycester, the Crown Jewel itself, has vanished.
For a thousand years, this soul-bound crystal determined who ruled the kingdom, pulsing in sync with the Crystal Caverns and feeding the crystal veins that run through the mountain’s bones. Now, it is missing. Without it, there is no clear heir. No coronation. No guidance from the Caverns. Just silence.
And no sign of Malakite.
Rumors swirl that the former Sword of Miycester stole the Heart before fleeing into the Deep Woods. But no one has seen him since the Sanctuary of Wilder went silent. Search parties return empty-handed, or don’t return at all. Some whisper that he took the gem beyond the Gate of the Dead. Others say he hid it where none could reach it.
In the vacuum, noble Houses scramble to seize control. Each claims the right to ‘temporarily’ govern, declaring themselves the most powerful, the strongest, the most deserving. Drow accuse drow. Blades are drawn in council chambers. Fights erupt in the palace halls.
Alliances fracture. Old blood feuds surface. There are quiet executions and louder threats. Panic spreads like rot. Tensions coil tight across Miycester’s veins.
Without the Heart, the kingdom has none.
And civil war is just one word away.
–
In the confusion, the lands Miycester had stolen under the guise of the treaty were left open, exposed, and defenseless. With the Crown gone and the Sword missing, command lines snapped. Those meant to hold the border turned on each other, or vanished altogether, while others simply ran. By the time Cailean banners appeared on the 6th day of Kythorn, there were no forces left to rally. Miycester’s influence shrank with every mile, and all anyone could do was watch as old lands were reclaimed by the enemy.
